The pictures on the aftermath page are from an interesting website on Mt. St. Helens in Washington. When I was trying to think of what kind of pictures would go with that poem, I thought about some sort of natural disaster, such as a volcano. When I found the study showing the differences over the years, I knew it was perfect-- because life does go on, and the vegetation comes back, and it becomes a place of haven again-- but it will never be the same.
